HP 3D PRINTING design system

SCROLL DOWN
HELPING DESIGN THE FUTURE OF THE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION

I started to work with the HP 3D Printing – Front Panel team two years ago. At that time they were starting to import all the sketch legacy files into Figma. That was only one of the tasks on the calendar, the team was creating new flows and features for the upcoming printing machines too.

CRAFTING A FLEXIBLE AND COMPLEX DESIGN SYSTEM
Since I already had some experience on that field you can imagine who got in charge of getting that library done. It took me three months almost full-time to get a first working version of the design system and it’s a work I’m proud of.
DESIGN THINKING ALL OVER THE PLACE

We worked using Design thinking as our global framework. We tried to understand our users, challenging assumptions, redefining problems and creating new solutions which we prototyped and tested internally and with real users. This was made trough a continuous iterative process. Our goal was to identify alternative design solutions that weren’t obvious with our previous level of understanding.

WIREFRAMING AS A WAY TO TEST QUICK AND DIRTY SOLUTIONS

Miro and Figma became my besties for a few months. We did many online creation workshops with the teams in American and Spain working together. We tried to look for simplified interactions trough sketching and asking again.

FIGMA MAKES (ALMOST) EVERYTHING EASY

Thanks to all the amazing features Figma has been adding lately they facility to create designs systems has increased exponentially. But everything comes with a trade off, isn’t it? Yeah, you need to learn new stuff, delete old stuff, and re-make both things together, that can be a lot of work.
